After years of neglect, Adobe is removing its free "Photoshop Mix" and "Photoshop Fix" apps from the App Store on June 21, 2021.

Adobe made the announcement in an update to its FAQ page for each of the apps. On the pages, Adobe says that both apps will be removed from the App Store on June 21, and advises users who used the apps to switch to using its "Photoshop Express Photo Editor," which requires either a monthly or yearly subscription for deeper photo editing.

Photoshop Mix was released on the App Store prior to when a fully-fledged version of Photoshop arrived on the iPad. It was Adobe's attempt to offer iPad users at the time some level of photo editing capabilities on the go. The app allows users to add text layers and "easily create and share professional multilayered images and designs in minutes." Photoshop Fix, on the other hand, is more tailored towards light touch-ups and refinements.

Photoshop Mix was last updated three years ago, while Photoshop Fix was updated two years with support for the iPhone X and newer screen ratio. Both apps will remain available for download on the App Store until June 21.

We are still waiting for a full fledged version of Photoshop on the iPad. The stripped down pile of 💩Adobe calls Photoshop on the iPad is a long ways from being "full fledged". For the iPad, Affinity Photo is much closer to being a full fledged, professional style photo editor than PS.

the introduction of photoshop for the M1 Mac chipset should speed up a “real” iPad port.

also here is my obligatory “I want Freehand back” comment.

I have an Adobe monthly subscription. I use Mix and Fix. Yes, it is in Photoshop Express.

In Photoshop express is Edit, Mix, Collage, Retouch, Capture

OMG yes! When I was in graphic design school I was one of the very people who liked Freehand over Illustrator. It just made more sense to me and seemed easier and faster. I was cranking out samples and exercises much faster versus pain and agony with Illustrator.

Yeah, gimme mah Freehand, j0!

Arrggggh. I use the smooth feature in PS Fix all the time to smooth out pixelated skys etc. Nothing equivalent/simple seems to exist even in the full PS. Disappointing.

Probably Abode's way of saying too many people are using its free app and not enough its paid app so it closes down its free app.
Yeah, and the anti-subscription crowd will have to come on board eventually. Soon any software worth having will be subscription only. The age of paying once for software and expecting perpetual updates is over. Just consider the outrage and protestations when Adobe took its flagship products subscription based. For all the pledges to never use Adobe again and to use alternative, non-subscription products, the demise of Adobe never happened, did it. Adobe is as strong today as it was then.

Still disappointing, when Adobe decided to require subscriptions years back. I do not use photoshop as often that I used to. It was easier buying software back then but old versions no longer work since Catalina or Big Sur.

When will Adobe release “finally the actual real full 100% desktop version (no seriously this time) Photoshop” on iPad. I don’t see a reason we can’t have this once they port it over to ARM for the MacOS platform.

Thankfully alternatives like the Serif Affinity line exist for those of us whose indignation hasn’t abated.

To be fair, we use Adobe at work. Sometimes you just need illustrator. But I’m comfortable saying that I could probably do without Adobe if I had to, using the Affinity products. My productivity might go down 25% during the transition period, but once I’m comfortable, I think I could be about as productive today. The company credit card holders are comfortable with Adobe, though.

Most of this stems from my use of Figma as a UI tool, which has just been a joy to work with!

I like affinity designers pen tool better than illustrator … only thing it’s missing is vector trace … but if I need it I bust out my old Adobe CS5 or vectormagic.com

iPadOS and MacOS are still pretty different from a UI and UX perspective, so just because there's a full M1 version available doesn't mean much IMO. Maybe it will speed things up, but the iPad team will still need to figure out how to actually implement features and make them work.
