A word of notice/caution. If you have activated Advanced Data Protection, (which subsequently required you to update a litany of devices on you AppleID if you hadn't kept up), and then buy a new HomePod Mini (or potentially any Apple Device that requires an update before activation), you need to temporarily turn off Advanced Data Protection. My first HomePod purchased after the Advanced Data Protection was turned on failed in setup many times. It would say that the Mini required an update, then would error out. After trying many different things, (different networks, different devices), I returned/swapped the HomePod for another. For some reason, when the new one was trying to configure, it brought up a note that the prior hadn't, referencing Advanced Data Protection. The solution was to turn off Advanced Data Protection, setup/install/configure the HomePod Mini, then turn Advanced Data Protection back on.

Thanks for the heads up! I think I remember reading an article on this. I don’t think you’re alone with the problem.

Yes, I am just finding this out with the new iPad I purchased today. Seems rather poorly thought out and implemented if you have to disable the feature just to set up a new device.
