So I think I'm going to get a new ATT number for the iPhone 4 because I'm sick of being called by random numbers I don't know from over the years. Would a new number avoid this altogether? Or would it have been previously used by someone else in the past. Thanks!

I would go for the new number. Last time I did I got way fewer misdialed calls. I guess my old number was a digit off from someone else who didn't pay their bills

Because a new number wouldn't have been given out to anyone yet.
Sure it could be a number that was just put back in the availalble pool and just as likely to get random calls based on the number pattern.

Why not split the difference and get a temp number and then you have 30 days to try the service before you need to port your number from your other carrier.

How do I get a temp number with the iPhone 4 on launch day though? Thanks.

Finally loose all those pesky tag-alongs and exes the keep hounding you? :p

When you buy the phone they will assign a number. Later, you can port your number over. Pretty simple, I did it.

edit: The only thing temp about it is you have 30 days to cancel and return the whole thing.
