I will be making a MBP purchase soon. I was wondering what the advantages are of purchasing directly from Apple, as opposed to from Amazon, for example?

Thanks.

The only upside is the ability to exchange it at a retail store (if there is one near you).

A couple, but only minor ones (if you have an educational discount from Apple, else just get it from Amazon) :

1. You can customize it through Apple if you want more RAM (if you are lazy to swap out the IGB for say, 2GB).
2. If you are buying the Apple protection plan, it gets activated right after its shipped out. Am not sure if you will be asked to handle a dead laptop on arrival if you go thru Amazon.

All in all, you can save tax thru Amazon even if you have an educational discount (around 100 bucks). But I went through Apple just for the peace of mind... Thats just me :)
