Advantages of Buyinhg an Apple TV

So I am really getting into all these Apple products!

After purchasing my Air, I would like to invest in an Apple TV.

However, before considering, what are the advantages of having an Apple TV? Is it worth to buy?
Do they update like all other Apple products do?

The only advantage is the ease of use. Apart from that I would get a Popcorn Hour.
