I've been living in China for the past two years and plan on staying for another year, but I'm heading back to the US for the summer and would like to get an iPhone 4 while I'm there. But since I'll have to pay an early termination fee and do who knows what to get it to work with China Unicom once I come back, I'm really at a loss as to what I should do.

Some ideas I have:
1) Buy an iPhone when I get back to China. Probably the best idea, but I'll have to wait...
2) Buy an unlocked iPhone, use it with my current American carrier for a while, bring it back here, and use it with China Unicom (don't want to jailbreak)

If I go with the latter idea, can I restore it to normal and just sign up for the normal China Unicom carrier, or do I have to keep it jailbroken in order for it to work? To my knowledge, iPhones are mostly the same around the world, so if I do a restore to factory settings and go over to the Apple Store to activate my iPhone, it should all work... right?

And the no WiFi thingy in China that's supposed to be resolved real soon... will that limit me from not using a jailbroken iPhone?

Btw, I'm gonna sell my iPod touch real soon so if I have to wait, I'll be without the iOS for a few months. Not cool, especially considering I also won't have a Mac to use back stateside. :(

Thank you guys, you rock!
