Hi all! I recently got a wood desk and wanted to apply a Philips gradient light to the back. However I'm concerned about the tacky backing ruining the wood over time.

Does anyone have experience with this or know any tricks? Googling revealed a few recommendations like painters tape with double-sided tape in the middle or CA glue. I want to be sure this desk lasts me for the long haul without needing to re-apply any of the varnish / sealing.

What about that stuff that is advertised for hanging pictures and such? The adhesive is supposed to come off easily if you pull it in the appropriate way and not damage anything.

These guys: Command.

They've got a range of products that might work for you, IDK.

Another thought is to use nano tape (also goes by gecko tape or alien tape). They don't use sticky adhesives/glue, but rather use nano carbon tubes to stick to things. (Basically works the same way geckos and bugs are able to stick to walls and ceilings.) It should be removable and not leave any sticky residue behind.

What is so special about the gradient deck light you want to use over another desk lamp that has its own heavy base that doesn't require attaching to the desK? The best gradient desk lights have a heavy round or square stand, and the bottom of the stand has a layer of a "felt" material to prevent scratching the desk with the lamp. Some are relatively cheap, while others are very expensive. You can get some ideas in here:

But more than likely Amazon has most of them from low to high cost. If you want to take care of your beautiful desk, don't attach anything (adhesive tabs, and so on) to it. Just place things on it that have a felt material at the bottom, or just buy a floor/desk lamp.
