Hi, all.

My son has a 2013 Macbook Air. Not sure of the specs but I want to say it's something like a 1.3 Ghz processor with 4 GB of RAM. For basic tasks it's fine but he likes to record himself playing chess (he has a Youtube channel) and he tends to get pretty good lag when playing fast live games. I'm guessing this is because his processor is so antiquated?

Any recommendations on what I could move him up to to get better results?

I have a 2014 Macbook Pro (2.5 Ghz i7, 16 GB) which I use for photo editing. I suspect a machine like this would be ok for him but wonder if there is another recommendation?

Thanks in advance!

No need to break the bank. I’d go with an older (but still Retina) MBP or an updated Air if he prefers the lightness.

He's got surprisingly good audio quality for what I assume is the built-in microphone, since the trackpad click is so loud still.

Anyways, yeah, I recommend having a look at Luke Miani's YouTube channel for tips of buying used MacBooks. You can probably find a good deal on a nice Retina that way

There's a brand new MacBook Air just release within the past week or so.
The price is quite nice, too.

Could be a good way to "get him upgraded" without breaking the bank...

Yes it's the built in mic. I'll have him check out Miani. Thanks!
