I've got my iPhone 4 on order and will be placing my 3GS for sale on eBay to recoup the cost. I already did this once before when my wife and I upgraded to the 3GS from the 3G, with good success.

I'm looking for opinions on this question: My 3GS glass has one fairly large scratch on the glass and some scattered hairline scratches as well. Should I spend the money and effort to replace the glass before selling? Would I make back enough on eBay to recoup the cost? I have done glass replacements before, and learned from a recent iTouch replacement (which was very difficult) to spring for glass that comes with the plastic frame rather than trying to peel off the old one and reuse it. Costs double for the kit with frame, but it's worth it. So I'm looking at $35 plus my time to do the swap.

The scratches do not really intrude on enjoying the device. The big scratch is a little deep on one end so when viewing the screen, I do occasionally notice a "rainbow effect" from the reflections, but just barely.

So it's borderline whether a buyer would consider it a big deal, but of course I have to fess up in the ad to be fair and to avoid complaints later. But with the number of 3GS's about to go on sale on eBay, any iPhones with scratches may get overlooked by most buyers.

Anyone do a 3GS glass swap before? How tough is it, compared to an iTouch 2G?
