Trying to figure out if I should give in and pick up an Apple watch. I've resisted them for some time but feel like it may be time. A couple considerations/questions:

  • I have a collection of analog watches that I wear regularly so those would continue to be my "daily" rotation, and I would use the Apple for workouts/sleep.
  • I've worn a whoop during workouts and sleep for the past 6 months, and have found the sleep/strain tracking to be super helpful/insightful. Does an Apple Watch track workouts/sleep as good as the Whoop? Is it way bulkier on the wrist while sleeping?
  • I'd like to use this for golf as I currently use an app on my phone. Is the Apple Watch competitive with golf-specific watches like the Garmin?
  • Considering the above, which model should I be looking into if at all?
Thanks for any insight!

There are apps for Golf that have Apple Watch ability. I can''t attest to any specific features and accuracy of such apps as I am not a golfer.

As to sleep tracking, the Apple Watch has a stock sleep tracking app albeit it is very rudimentary. Third party watch apps like Pillow and AutoSleep are much, much better and have lots of charts and results numbers to geek over.

I wear the watch to bed and don't find it bulky at all. I like using haptic feedback to wake me up, instead of a loud alarm.

A few years back, my brother used Golfshot Pro with his Apple Watch 3 and thought it was helpful — he only stopped using it because he lost the watch in the ocean and doesn’t get to golf regularly any more.

Unless you really want the different body material/finishes offered by the other watches the SE should do just fine. The cellular version isn‘t necessary though does have perks but is a higher cost and requires support by your wireless provider.
