Advice needed for Apple Extreme 802.11n

First time poster so apologies if I make some newbie mistakes.

I have an Apple Network at home. I am having coverage problem caused by the fact that the house is old and large with very thick walls.

This is compounded by the fact that I have a main house and an outbuilding with most of the work happening in the outbuilding (although coverage in the main house is important.
I have tried many positions and even switched the DSL entry point but at the end of the day I have good coverage and speed in the one building but never the other
Consequently I have assumed that the problem resides with the link between the 2 buildings (thick exterior walls - makes sense)

Currently I have
- An ADSL connection
into the outbuilding
- 1 Airport Extreme (the flying Saucer type) in the outbuilding
- 2 X Airport Express in the main house
- A mixture of PCs and Apple devices most connecting with 802.11g

My thoughts are as follows
* Purchase 2X new Airport Extremes
* Place one in the Outbuilding which will service the devices out there
* Place one in the main house at a point close to the outbuilding (The buildings are about 15 metres apart
* Place the old Extreme and the 2X Expresses around the main house (congured correctly of course

Now to my questions
* Will the 2X Extremes talk to eachother via 802.11n? (given that their will be 802.11g access points and PCs/Macs connecting to them)
I read somewhere that adding 802.11g devices to the network downgrades speed and range. Makes sense but will it downgrade it to the extent of my current 802.11g Extreme?

* If connecting 802.11g to the new Extreme downgrades it to the same range as the old Extreme (flying saucer) then my idea won't work.
However I suppose I could put both new Extremes into 802.11n mode only and then plug an 80211g access point into both extremes. Therefore any 802.11g clients will connect to an older 802.11g access point.

This is an expensive way of bridging 2 buildings but it is better than cabling it. I am useless at that and anyway it would be difficult (would need to drill holes through tick walls and dig up the garden)

* Does my logic make sense or do you have some other thoughts?

Thanks for all your help

Cheers
