Hi guys,

Some time ago, just before corona, we bought my mother some airpods, and she totally loves them. However, she gives piano lessons for a living and has shifted to digital lessons for the time being, via skype. She has the phone on a tripod and airpods in so she can easily talk to her students and listen to them. However, some of them have complained that the piano itself is a bit hard to hear sometimes, which I figure is probably a feature of the airpods trying to block out background noise. So now she's looking for some alternative. The most convenient thing for her would be to use the airpods in conjunction with an external microphone. However, as far as I know, it is not possible to use a mic (for example one connected via lightning) while playing the audio through the airpods, is this correct? And if so, does anyone have any other suggestions for such a set up (with or without the airpods).

I use a Plantronics Calisto 7200 speakerphone when my kids take Zoom piano lessons. It can bind to your phone via Bluetooth. Jabra also makes the excellent 510 which is similar.

That would not work together with the airpods right? And does it still record well when emitting sound itself?

You use it instead of AirPods not with AirPods. It is basically a speakerphone, so it has an array of mics, and a speaker. Your mom can hear the kids, the kids can hear your mom. There is also a dedicated mute button and volume controls on the device.
