I have two macbook pros. One is a the older style (probably 1.5- 2 years old) the other is <1 year. Both started to malfunction badly right after I upgraded to 10.5.7. They would lock up several times a day, not wake up from sleep mode and the older one would experience the strangest malfunction when you tried to open up files - for example: go to word and click file open and column after column would fill the screen. So I made an appointment at the local genius bar (Baton Rouge LA) . The "genius" looked at the first computer and didn't believe me (rolled her eyes) so I tried to demonstrate the problem of opening files (its easy to reproduce) and she wouldn't even look. Instead she insisted that we needed to send the unit off for repair. The newer unit needed to have its OS re-written since clearly that was the problem (diagnosed with out even turning the computer on).

The older computer (not warrantee) came back hundreds of dollars and a new logic board and new fans and still malfunctions.

The newer one still crashed all over the place. Next trip, new "genius". This one opened my computer poked around for a while and said - of course you have limewire installed. That always causes these problems. He deleted it and some backup software that I had legitimately owned and installed. He proclaimed that the problem was fixed, but would keep the computer overnight and call me in the morning. No one called. I called the next day (day 3) and was greeted with – WE WILL CALL YOU. Three days and no call so I called back again - this time told " we call back in 3 or 4 days." I explained that I really needed my computer for work.I'm told to hold. She gets back on the phone with me and tells me that they have been waiting for permission to reformat the hard drive and either I could give permission or I could just pick my computer back up. I told her fine - but when did they plan on calling me..... I just get a " we will get back to you in 3 days or so - bye"

I really feel like if I could just speak to someone at Apple - clearly they would not want this to be happening - their reputation is built on the concept that people will pay for better service - but who can I contact. I cannot find a help number anywhere - unless I want to pay $20. There must e someone I can contact about all this, isnt there?

any advice would be appreciated.
