Advice Needed: Purchasing a Macbook Pro

hey Everyone;

Eric here..

My birthday is coming up soon, and I found out my french teacher's husband works at a local Apple store, and she said he could set me up with an old Macbook Pro. (Pre-Aluminum).

I don't need it for much except schoolwork, and the odd gaming

Reasons I didnt consider a Macbook:

-Might not be able to support High-End graphics
-Smaller Screen size than Preferred.

So, the real question is:

Do I get the MacBook Pro from my Teacher's husband? or do I save for the Aluminum one.

The MacBook Pro I am considering getting from my teacher is Refurbished.
If that changes anything.

ask him what cpu, how much ram, video card, and hard drive capacity it has and a list of things you need it to do for you and maybe we'll be able to help you out better.

Why does this matter? Any intel Mac will run "schoolwork" programs perfectly fine. For the "odd gaming", the newer the better.
