iPhone Advice Needed to Unlock iphone 3GS

hey guys,

Please accept my apologies, This is my first experience with iphone so I may be talking absolute rubbish.

Just need some advice, I recently recieved an iphone 3gs from my brother who was on a pay monthly contract with Orange.

My Sim Card is with tesco and i would prefer to keep my current number so would like to use this sim in the iphone.

The phone already has cydia and ultrasn0w installed but will not unlock, it just keeps "searching..."

If anybody could give me any help it would be really appreciated.

On the "About" section under settings I have the following...
Version - 5.1.1 (9B206)
modem firmware - 05.16.05

Another thing, under carrier it does say - Tesco 12.0 even when my sim is not in the phone.

Any Ideas?

Ultrasn0w does not unlock your baseband.

Post the first 5 characters of your serial #.

The 5.16.05 can't be unlocked with ultrasn0w.

Best thing to do is go for a grey market IMEI unlock, it's relatively cheap and is a permanent solution, look on ebay or the numerous threads on the first page here.

call orange and ask for an official unlock from them if your bro got it under contract.
