Hi
I wanted to upgrade the HDD in my 13" MBP (2.4 mid 2010).
I would really like a 1TB 12.5mm, but i've read to stay away from the 12.5mm.

So i question is, which family of HDD's is best when it comes to noise, heat, stability (time before failure) and speed? (Power Consumption is important too, but i suppose there isn't any difference between them).

WESTERN DIGITAL WD Scorpio Blue or SAMSUNG SpinPoint?

This is what i could find, i would either go for the WD 500gb or Samsung 640gb (of course depending on which family is best)

- WESTERN DIGITAL WD Scorpio Blue 500GB HDD 5400rpm sATA - 428/$73.8 (cheapest)
- SAMSUNG SpinPoint 500GB HM500JI 8MB SATA - 454/$78.3

- SAMSUNG SpinPoint/2.5" 640GB M7E SATA 8MB 5400rp - 505/$87 (cheapest)
- WESTERN DIGITAL WD Scorpio Blue 640GB HDD 5400rpm sATA - 648/$111,7

- Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD7500BPVT 750GB - 787/$135,7

There is also a 640gb scorpio blue. If you must have the big sizes, there is a seagate 7200.5 750gb on the way, which unlike the samsung or wd, that will be 7200rpm.

I have a Samsung drive in both my MBP and my wife's white Macbook.

I bought them for two reasons:

1) Yes, they were cheaper, but still had comparable warranty.

2) They benchmarked considerably faster. (Check harddrivebenchmark.net)

My wife's is a single platter 250GB, 5400rpm drive (HM250HI) and mine is the 640GB drive you listed, I think (mine is HM641JI)

I've been very happy with both - very faster and very quiet. I'll gladly buy Samsung drives in the future.
