Maybe this week I will be buying a PowerMac Dual 2.3 and a TFT Display. I had two candidates: Dell 2005fpw or ACD 20-inch. I have decided to buy the Apple Display as now, in the Spanish AppleStore with the edu discount, is cheaper than the Dell display.
My only concern with it is about quality. In the past I have heard a lot of problems with the ACD and I would like to know what's "the true" about quality with this display. I'm very demanding with LCD displays: a month ago I returned a Powerbook 17-inch because of some uneven color and brightness problems.
Thanks in advance!! :)

Thank you very much for the links. I have already read it, and the review was one of the things that encouraged me to buy the ACD. But Im particulary interested in user experiences, as I have already read lots of reviews.

I think only people with 23" ACD had problems with colors IIRC. I don't remember anyone with a 20" who had problems.

I had the previous model of the ACD, 20 inch, and it was flawless. It was also a bit pricey back then, but recently the price has dropped. I even packed, unpacked and transported the display a few times and nothing ever happened with it. No dead pixels, not color fading on the edges, just a wonderful picture.

I have a 23" HD Cinema Display (previous plastic bezel) and have had no problems with it. For reference, it is over 2 years old.

The dell and apple display are about the same. But the dell is normally cheaper. Still i bought the apple because it matches my powerbook.

I would suggest that you go with the ACD.

I have the 2005fpw, and I think that it was the absolute best choice at the time, which was before the most recent price drop. At that time, the ACD did not warrant the 400 dollar premium charge, but now after the price drop I think that it would be worth it. I just can't stop thinking about the beauty of the aluminum. Also, although my Dell is without this problem, you could get a 2005fpw with backlight issues. I haven't heard of that problem with the 20" ACDs recently.

If I could do it all over again with today's prices, I'd go with the ACD

interesting. this artical makes me even more happy that i bought the dell. it sounds like the two are nearly identical, except the dell has more inputs (which is good for me since my rev A PB only supports VGA and not DVI) and most importantly the dell is cheaper! which was a huge selling point for me. Sub 500 for such a quality screen is great. i love using the dell and would deffinitly reccomened it (unless you want to fork over the extra cash just so your monitor matches your computer! i have to admit the apple does have more style!)

Yeah, but if the ACD was cheaper that the Dell, which one would you buy? (720€ vs. 799€) Are all problems with the ACD 20-inch resolved by now as has happened with the Dell 2005fpw?

The only reservation to the ACD should be its price. Since that doesn't seem to be a problem, go for it. It's beautiful. You won't regret it.

I'd definitely go with whichever one costs less. Being in the U.S., I was able to get the Dell for under $400 a couple of weeks back, so it was hundreds less than the ACD even with the recent price drop from Apple. YMMV price wise in Europe though it seems however. They both work great, so you really can't go wrong with either one.
