Hi all,

I had my S8 Watch replaced under AC+ on the 16th of November last year. At that point, it was about 23 months old: the battery health was 84%. I took it to Apple, they went over it with a fine tooth comb (even contemplated telling me they wouldn't help despite having AC+ as I was running the Watch OS Beta, but hey-ho).

My new S8 was received by me a few days later, 19th of November. All has been good with it until recently. Over the last couple of months, I've noticed that I'm getting charging reminders before bedtime because the battery is below 30%. The last week, I've noticed the subtle-continual pulse telling me the watch is 10% or less at the same time. This means I'm giving it a 20 minute charge before bed just to sleep, then waking it up and charging it fully for the 'day' when I wake up. I've also noticed that in the last 3-4 weeks, I'm having to turn off optimized battery charging as even some mornings, it doesn't charge unless I turn this option off. I've just this evening checked my battery health, and it's currently 91%. That's a 9% drop in 8 months, and if it continues at this rate in another 8 months, It'll be lower than my first S8 was at 23 months.

I've done the turning off and on again, software is up to date, there are no apps installed other than those in WatchOS. Notifications aren't set up any differently etc etc.

I know batteries age, and I figured that my 'new' S8 was a refurbished model that could have been sitting around for months prior to being sent to me.

My question is, is this an acceptable amount of battery degradation for a 9 month old Watch? It's kinda' at that point where it's affecting functionality. I have been recording workouts first thing in the day with a fully charged battery, but ordinarily, I go to the Gym at the end of the day and I'd be miffed if the watch switched off halfway through (which is how I found out my last battery was toast). I think Apple's threshold is 87% if I remember rightly? I still pay for AC+: is it worth raising with Apple or am I wasting my time until I hit that magic percentage? Any others got thoughts or experience with similar?

Answers on a postcard....

Cheers,
Dan

The threshold is 80%.

I think you would be wasting your time raising the battery issue with support. If I were in your position and didn't have my heart set on keeping the S8 for another year or more, I would wait and see what is announced next month and then consider upgrading. I also wouldn't continue to pay for AC+ on a S8. You are throwing away money on an old depreciating device.

battery health needs to be < 80% (so 79 or less) in order for Apple to exchange it.
all batteries are different, I'd suggest talking to Apple and see what they have to say
