i am in need of some extra hard drive space on my 12" powerbook. i dont need a really huge amount of space so something like 60gb would be about right. i wouldnt want to spend above £100 so can anyone advise me on which would be the best?

Well, I would recommend something from OWC or from Fantom...I have a Fantom 75G drive, which I have had for a long time (it cost $700 when I bought it, to give you an idea)...with no problems...so I can't help but recommend. Their newer drives are quite spiffy (titanium). OWC has just been often recommended...The thing is, I am not sure if they are available to you in the UK...if they are, they should be well w/in your price range for a 80G model...here are links:

I ordered this today:

I am going to throw it in a firewire case for around another $40-50, for a total of less than $150 shipped [i think that is less than 100 pounds, but I have no clue what the exchange rate is(I stopped getting the WSJ when I joined the army)]. I am not sure if they ship to GB but it is a pretty cheap solution to you hard drive woes. You could probably find a cheaper drive somewhere, but I am not big on rebates.
