I have a 1.5 old MBP that recently stopped being able to burn cd's or dvd's. It get's halfway through and throws an error. Even on the slowest settings. It's never been able to burn on the highest settings, but now I never get anything but frisbee's out of it.

Any advice on the best way to deal with getting this fixed? Will taking a cd-r along and showing it error be good enough? With my luck it will work.

I can't afford to let my laptop go back just for this, will they be able to fix / replace the drive without sending it to China?
