Hello,

I have a small USB disk which contains several very important pieces of information. The disk contains files from several operating systems. I would like to use my mac to clone this disk, an exact copy back up. Do you have free simple effective solutions? Maybe terminal or something open source? It doesn’t need scheduling or anything ele, just a simple clone. Its of vital importance that this also back up all the Linux and windows files contained on the disk, even though some of them aren’t visible through Finder.

What are my options?

Ta for any help.

IF the flashdrive is in Mac format, the answer is easy:
Carbon Copy Cloner - Download

I second the suggestion for CCC. I have used it for years and it works very well.

Thank you! Yeah this is a great piece of software. Whilst I generally dont mind paying for great software, I have absolutely no need for all of these features. I just need a simple programme which will clone a drive when I ask it too. It’s a bit steep to pay that much on such advanced software to do such a simple task.

I’m not asking for free necessarily! Just i wont use any of the features of this app other than occasionally clone a single 8gb thumb drive.

CCC gives you 30 days to try the software. That ought to be sufficient to clone one USB Drive.

SuperDuper is free if you only use it to clone disks. You only have to pay if you use the advanced features.

I want the option to clone again if the data on the disk changes. I’ll check out SuperDuper - Thanks!

Super Duper seems to do the job, thanks. Quick question though. This backs it up to a disk image, which is fine. Is there away to store disk images once they‘re unmounted? When they unmount, where do they go? Can you remount them?

Superduper can also back up to a disk. But if you got an image, that's ok for your purposes too. A disk image is just a file. Keep it wherever you want, and double click it to remount it.

I have SuperDuper and I like it, but the author does not keep it uptodate👎 I like SD's interface better than CCC, but if I were buying today, I would get CCC. And I may just chuck SD and get a CCC license.
