Do you want raid for redundancy or speed?

Honestly when it’s a question of raid 1 or raid 0, I’d just get a dual or quad bay TB3 case and stick whatever (matched) hard drives you want inside, and use Apples software RAID. If you want you can even do both, and raid0 across two raid1 pairs, to give you raid10. The Disk Utility GUI will sometimes report the intermediary raid1 volumes as missing in this scenario but the command line `diskutil` will show the correct status.

^ the above raid10 setup is what I have in a cheapish usb3/esata 5bay drive case.
