Now that someone is purchasing my 3.0Ghz Mac Pro (April 07), I will go out and get a new Mac Pro today. But what do you guys think I should get.

2.8 or 3.0?

2600XT or 8800GT?

I already have the Mac Pro RAID card, 5 HD (4 for RAID and one for boot using Pro Caddy), and 16GB of RAM, 30" and 23" Cinema Displays.

I think I know what I'm going to get, but I love engaging the opinions of you guys on this board. May open a perspective :D

I am using it for full HD editing ...

I too thought long and hard about 2.8 vs 3.0. The 2.8 now is better than your old 3.0. Plus the RAM speed is now 800 MHz vs the old 667.I'd stick with the 2.8. Check out these reviews:

The 3.0 is fast, but the 2.8 is the better deal for the money. The extra performance gained from the 3.0 is minimal, and I dont think it's worth another $800. I'd rather spend that money on hard drives, memory, and the Nvidia 8800 upgrade.

So that's what I did, I just bought the 2.8 with the 8800GT. I picked up 2 extra Gigs of RAM from OWC, and will soon pick up another 500G hdd when I need it.

I got everything basic plus the 8800GT upgrade. Spent the rest of the money on OWC ram, as advised by fellow forum members.

I have to agree with the 2.8/8800 config...the 2.8 is still a monster

I plan on the same rig in a few weeks

Thanks all, I now have my new Mac Pro. Specs in my sig.

Gotta love being in NYC and being able to go to Tekserve and have them custom build a computer on the spot for you ... all in 20 minutes!!!
