Likely getting a new MBP (late 2016). My laptop uses are fairly non-intensive, - web surfing, email, word, photos and maybe some light video editing. Giving my current MPB to my daughter so I'm definitely getting something new.

I also own an iMac 27 that I use for the same, but also do some occasional Windows gaming. The iMac has all of my photos stored as well.

I've considered a strategy of replacing the iMac, using the new MBP alone, with a 27 inch display and adding a windows based desktop to the mix. I would need a monitor that would seamlessly support both a windows desktop and the new MBP with two inputs.

Any thoughts on this and recommendations for a monitor?

I would recommend you get a Dell P2715Q 4K monitor. It has DisplayPort and HDMI inputs.
