I am looking to buy a Displayport to USB C cable for my M1 Mac mini. It is getting hooked up to a Viewsonic 27" 1440p display capable of high refresh rates. I have come across several options all have varying reviews about compatibility. Does anyone have any experience using any of the cables linked below successfully with an M1 Mac mini at high refresh rates? I do not want to use an HDMI connection because I have a Displayport KVM with other computers attached.

Moshi USB C to DisplayPort Cable 1.5m/5ft, Support 5K@60 Hz, 4K HDR, VESA Certified, Aluminum Housing, Thunderbolt 3 Compatible

Accell USB-C to DisplayPort Cable - USB 3.1 Type-C to DisplayPort 1.2 Cable - 6 Feet, 4K UHD @60Hz - Compatible with Thunderbolt 3

USB C to DisplayPort, Maxonar 8K 60Hz Type-C to DP Cable 6.6FT/2M (4K 60Hz 144Hz 120Hz 2K 240Hz) VESA Certified

AmazonBasics Bi-Directional USB-C to DisplayPort Cable - 6-Foot

Cable Matters Long USB C to DisplayPort Cable (USB-C to DisplayPort Cable, USB C to DP Cable) Supporting 8K 60Hz in Black 10 ft - Thunderbolt 3 Port Compatible

Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The Moshi should be great, but a not-so-great price of nearly $90.

I would likely try the Cable Matters cable first.

Similar issue. Called Mac Support. Was advised M1 is not compatible with USB-C Adaptor (Apple original) using HDMI to Display Port cable combination. Anyone else found this to be the case and have a solution?

I managed to display a video signal through the Delock 8K cable but only when using DP 1.4 proto and it only works in 4K :-/. I guess it is down to the chipset which is in that cable Delock uses Fresco Logic FL7102.

I used this cable with my Dell 27” P2715Q 4K monitor, and it works perfectly. Guess I lucked out :)

I know, this topic is from a long time ago.

I just receive my Mini M1.

In November I want to order two LG monitors, but for now I got a spare Dell 1080px.
My question is.
If I buy that cable, will the mac mini recognise the monitor or should I choose for a HDMI to DP cable?
I guess that HDMI always will be recognised?

Realistically for connecting to FHD/QHD displays it shouldn't be that big a deal - I have a generic USB-C to DP cable bought off from Amazon for $18 to connect my MBP M1 Max to a QHD Dell monitor and it has worked flawlessly from day 1 (where as HDMI can have a delay on wake-up).

The rule of thumb is that going for expensive cables is not a guarantee against anything, read reviews/comments to get an idea of what people use a given cable with as an indication.

Thank you.
Thats why I came here. 😉
Does your cable have brandname?
Or a amazon pointer?

You may get a better answer if you can tell us the model number of your Dell monitor. "Dell 1080px" does not give any meaningful results. There should be an ID plate somewhere on the back of the display.

I am using with an M1 Studio Max a Cable Matters option to connect to my Benq PD2700u via Display port. It has worked fine and continues to do so. Any issues I have had can all be traced to OS crap from Apple.

Which LG monitors are you considering? Check and see which version of DisplayPort they use and simply buy a usb c to DisplayPort dongle or two of the appropriate version and you’ll be set. The dongle will be backwards compatible to whichever version your old Dell supports. The LG displays will come with cables that are known to play nice with them and all will be good.

Do not plan on converting hdmi to DisplayPort. It likely won’t go well. Apple’s implementation of hdmi on the M1 machines leaves a bit to be desired. DisplayPort is the more reliable connection and offers more scaled resolutions on 4k+ displays.

I did receive my two 27UP650-W monitor's and attached it to a Mac Mini M1 2020 (MMM1);
one using HDMI port to the HDMI port of monitor 1
second is connected from the TB port (usb-c Mac mini) to a TerraMaster TD2 ( TB ) and from there using a DP1.4 port to the second monitor using the supplied DSP cable.

Works in all the resolutions; however, when the Mac Mini dims the display or falls in sleep, and wakes up, only the HDMI connected monitor get on in a lower resolution and the second monitor stays off/dark.

If I cant find a solution then I have to connect the 2e monitor to the mac mini using usb-c cable like people above mentioned.

Question,
people who uses a USB-c to HDMI cable directly from the Mac Mini to a display like the LG do they when waking up, do they keep their resolutions and working monitors without restarting the Mac mini?
