Advice on what i should do for Jailbreak

I have an iphone 4 on 4.0.1 FW.

All i want is to get mywi on my phone. i have no interest in any other stuff involved with JB. I've jailbroken plenty of phones, and my own in the past, and dont find much about it appealing.

I NEED stabilty. I dont like weird stuff happening randomly, or crazy battery drain.

I read something about a "mobile substrate" going haywire and and draining batteries like no ones business. Some changed the mobile substrate and it helped or whatever.

All i want to know is:

Can i use Jailbreakme or similar, JUST for mywi, nothing else, and have a stable phone as i do now, no weirdness, and no battery problems?

I dont think jailbreakme.com works for 4.1. Try limer1an

You can use jailbreakme.com on that firmware and just install Mywi thru cydia if thats all you're interested in.
Even with mobilesubstrate I have no weirdness, stability or battery issues on my i4.
It all depends what you install. Some go wild and install 30-40 JB packages.
I try to stick with the basics, like 7-8 usefull JB add ons only.
Im sure you'll have no probs with just Mywi.

if your happy with 4.0.1 jailbreakme.com other wise I would use PwnageTool to preserve your baseband

Up to you, I'd go with jailbreakme since its very simple with no need to put the phone in DFU etc..
They all will accomplish the same though.
You'd be fine IMO. JB and install the mywi trial to give it a shot.
If you dont like the performace or have any issues you can always restore back to official firmware.
