We're on our way to the AT&T store today to get a new phone for my wife. We're looking for a phone that:
  • Is free (or near free)
  • Does not require a long-term commitment to a data plan
  • syncs with iCal and Contacts or Entourage 2004

Possibilities so far include:
  • The Samsung Solstice
  • The Motorola Karma
  • The LG Vu

Not looking for full functionality, just the ability to sync a calendar and contacts with Mac.

Thanks!

The Sony-Ericssons are usually a good bet. Plus, at least on my old W810i from Cingular/ATT, you could do all sorts of stuff via Bluetooth like use it as a presentation clicker/mouse pointer, too. Seamless iSync integration. Also, they have the nicest non-smartphone user interfaces IMO.

Word to the wise: if iSync is what you want, avoid LG and Samsung (as a rule). Most Sony-Ericssons and Nokias will work with iSync--even if not right out of the box, then with a free/nearly free plugin.
