Hi all,

New Mac owner and trying to understand Mac Photos and specifically Photo Stream photo syncing.

New MBA 2020 (OS 10.15.5) - photo stream only enabled, *not* iCloud photos
iPhone 11 (iOS 13.5) - photo stream and iCloud photos enabled
iPad 6th Gen (iOS 13.5) - photo stream and iCloud photos enabled

Had the MBA about two weeks and have been happily snapping away on the iPhone 11 and Photo Stream has been sending the photos over from the phone to the Mac. Noticed about a week ago that newly taken and previous photos had lost their Portrait tags on the Mac (still visible on the iPhone and iPad) and that new photos weren't coming over from the phone.

On reading a bit more about photo stream I'm really puzzled as to how the Portrait tagged photos got onto the Mac in the first place as I'm not sure that photo steam sync supports them.

Has any one any suggestions as to how to set this up so that new photos from my phone arrive on my Mac intact with Portrait tags? (Tags may not be the right term, but I hope you know what I mean).

I haven't enabled iCloud photos yet on the Mac due to the size of the library. I've pulled it in from a number of sources and need to have a sort through / tidy up before enabling full sync.

Thanks for reading and appreciate any wisdom on this.

Cheers.
