old guy so as much screen as feasible, cellular and wi fi? not sure on that-
it would be nice to ditch this iPhone 6s+ that wont take any newish sw -not sure about memory..but seems I can buy a refurbed iPad cheaper and with more functionality for me than I can a similar iPhone used of course?.. I know I am missing lots of important pieces, specs etc, thank you all for your help-

I like iPad mini, it’s easier to hold especially the old design with home button (Mini 4/5). The new ones are ok (6/7) but I prefer the old design. Cellular not so important, just Wi-Fi for me because I only use at home.

Honestly go to a shop and try to see which size u prefer. apple offers 8, 11 and 13” because people prefer different things.

And if u want to unlock via touch Id (mini, air) or Face ID (pro).

Price depends on your model. The pro ipads are more expensive than an iphone SE

Thanks all --some help--Apple Store is 100 miles round trip in death defying traffic.....so trying to avoid that.......Best Buy seems about to close....no inventory and not much foot traffic....walmart....not so much......thanks again

Look up the dimensions of the different models and make mockups out of cardboard. That will give you a good idea. Or order them all and return the ones you don't like...

You can't use an iPad like a regular phone as-is, though, it doesn't have the phone app. You'd need a VoIP/SIP line and a third-party client app.
