Hiya

I hate for my first thread to be one asking for help, but I've seen how helpful MacRumours members have been in the past, so I trust you'll forgive me. :)

I have a MacBook (unsure if the G3/4/5 rating still applies) - I can give you the technical specs if it'll help but I don't think it will, as my problem lies with the DVD drive. Whenever I lift the lid on my Mac, it automatically searches and attempts to mount the disc drive. 98% of the time there's not a disc in it, so it's a waste of time, power and effort. Is there any way to stop it looking for discs on waking?

Cheers,

1) If you have a Macbook, it's an Intel system, not Gx as that was the PowerPC architecture.

2) That's just how the disc drive is. It's doing both a disc check and a self-check. It wastes next to no power, so don't worry about it.
