I will be physically in the EU when iOS 18 is released. What are the dis/advantages, if any, when upgrading via UK appleID?

a) from 17.6.1
b) from beta 18.1

(two different iPhones)

No difference at all by upgrading while you are in the EU if you're from the UK. There is no Apple Intelligence on iOS 18, so it won't be disabled for you. And if anything does get disabled, it will unlock once you're back in the UK.

Also: b) is not possible, you can't go from 18.1 beta to 18 without erasing and restoring.

Erasing (I.e. 18.1 beta to 18.0 release) means mobile service has to activate, which may not happen if you’re not in the carrier coverage area. Sometimes it will activate via Wi-Fi, but that’s not a chance I’d be willing to take.

Thanks for the responses.

I think I will defer my gratification until I return to the UK and the native coverage of my telco, at least for (b) - and probably for (a) in case 18 upsets something when 'roaming'

Or you could just install iOS 18 RC which is already available now (if you're still in the UK), and is likely to be the same thing that is released on Monday. And even if not, it's going to be a small upgrade.

I believe (maybe someone who has traveled and updated in this situation can confirm) you'll get updates based on where your apple account is located (i.e. your registered address), rather than where you are physically located at the time of update.

I do know I haven't had store content purchased in Australia region disabled when I have traveled to third world countries for example.
