I know a person who is trustworthy who wants to sell a macbook air for 800 dollars due to his financial situation. this is a first generation macbook air with a 80 GB non solid state hard drive. Would this be a good buy. any advice helps:(. It is about 6 months old not a ding on the external surface.

The first gens are selling in the apple refurb store (with a one-year warranty) for $999 right now. Considering you won't have the warranty, $800 is a fine price. And, hey, help the guy out - us apple geeks gotta stick together in this economy!

Realistically you're saving around $200, with only 6 months left of warranty on the initial one year. Go on eBay and buy AppleCare for about $140, and its still cheaper than the refurb. Not a bad deal if you ask me, plus you're helping out an friend.

Thank you that helps.
