I have recently picked up a 2008 mac pro. My current setup is as follows:
-Referenced library in Mirror raid residing on a MDD server
-Boot drive in bay one of Mac Pro
-Soft Raid stripe across first 100GB of two drives in bay 2 and 3 for fast scratch drive
-The rest of the drives in bay 2/3 is not RAID to reduce impact of drive failure
-Aperture library on drive in bay 2
I currently import images onto the scratch drive and then archive them off to the referenced library when done.
I am currently running leopard and want to add another drive to dual boot Leopard/snow Leopard until I am satisfied with the transition. I am not too sure what to do however in terms of buying more drives or SSDs.
I am considering an SSD for a boot drive but have heard it said that it is good to have the aperture library on an SSD too. I am not sure if this makes sense or not as surely an aperture library has a lot more read writes? My aperture library is also close to 50GB.
Any suggestions on strategy going forward?
Cheers,
Jim
