Out of the four choices at the Apple site when ordering a new G4 1.43 dual, which card is the better choice and why?

FCP and After Effects are the main software packages to be used on the unit and I don't do gaming.

If a higher end card is the choice, is it worth the money?

As you can see from tests like the ATI Shader Demos on the 3D tests page, the 9700 Pro has the potential for much higher performance than previous cards if the application code takes advantage of it. Performance of any card depends on several factors such as:

1. The system's ability to feed it data
2. The quality/efficiency of the drivers
3. The application/game code (efficiency and support of card features)
4. The limits and features of the card design
Also a matter of drivers. With some more test time on the market, it should be _the card_ for the Mac. Until the 9800 comes to the Mac, of course ;)

The video card will not effect the render speed or quality of FCP or AE. As long as it has good 2D and dual monitor support that's all you need.
