iPhone SE (2020) AE/AF Lock - Using a Fine Stylus to Improve Precision

I have an iPhoneSE 2020. I have blunt fingertips. At times I want to the camera to focus on a small detail in the photo. Will a stylus pen help? Would a fine-tipped drawing stylus be even better, or is the size of the area selected determined by the software? Anyone have any experience with this idea?
