AE BAse Station and Wired router

Can i plug an AE base station into a current wired router and essentially have it provide wirless service without any changes to the current wired configuration?

Yes, but you'd have to muck around with the AirPort settings.

yes this is pretty easy.

Turn off DHCP in the AEBS and turn ON bridging. That is it really.
