AEBS + External Hard Drive

I'm hoping somebody can help. I have just purchased an ext. HD and have connected to it my airport extreme. When I connect to it through my macbook (uni), the disk mounts to my desktop. However, when I connect to it with my iMac, I am only able to access it through the finder window (shared).

Is there a way that I can get the disk to mount on my iMac? I have no idea why one computer would let me but the other wouldn't.

In your Finder Preferences, make sure "Connected servers" is checked under "Show these items on the Desktop:"
