AEBS (n version) slow to connect to servers

I recently purchased one of the new airport extreme base stations (pre-n). I've been happy with all aspects of it except one- it seems to take a full second or so to connect to new servers. This includes web browser traffic, itunes radio and store samples, and game servers...over both ethernet and wifi. Settings are as follows:

-comcast cable internet (everything works as it should when the modem is connected directly to a computer)
-airport base station settings (latest firmware/airport utility) :
-Connect using: ethernet
-Configure IPv4: using DHCP
-Ethernet WAN port: Automatic
-Connection Sharing: Share a public IP address (NAT)


any ideas?
