I was curious and tried opening a AES 256-bit encrypted disk image created under Leopard in Tiger (10.4.10) and it opened without problems.

Either they added the AES 256-bit mounting functionality to Tiger at some point or is it possible Tiger can mount images using any length AES key?

BTW, does anyone know a way to see what length key a disk image uses? I'd be curious to know if Filevault is using AES 256 now.

actually i'm pretty sure that file vault in leopard still uses 128 bit keys. Yeah I know, it doesn't exactly make sense as to why, since file vault uses sparse disk images to do it's magic. I really wanted 256 bit file vault myself.
