Hi everybody, today I received a brand-new external Toshiba Canvio 500gb USB2.0 drive. My AEX refuses to mount the drive, so my question is: does AEX require an external USB hard drive be self-powered? The information I found from various websites is... contradictory.
I formatted the drive to MacOS Extended Journaled. My Macbook Pro immediately mounted it.
As a test, I copied some mp3s to it and made iTunes play them; all good.
I then unmounted the device and unplugged the drive.
I unplugged the Airport Extreme, plugged in the USB hard drive, then powered up the AEX.
The USB drive whirred up and blinked along with the AEX.
I fired up Airport Utility aaaaand... the AEX doesn't recognise the hard drive. Son of a crap.
The hard drive light is illuminated. Disk/file sharing is switched on.
I plugged the hard drive back into my MBP and it mounted, the files I copied earlier visible and in tact. I'm stumped.
