Well I've had my Macbook Pro 15" for around a month or so, but I have yet to buy a laptop bag/case for it. I'm looking for something not too bulky, as I'll probably be carrying it around from class to class in college. I do want it to be sufficient protection (in-case I do the unspeakable and drop it). Are there any affordable suggestions you can make for college student?

Check Incase. I recently purchased a Nylon Backpack from the fall collection. Check this out!
If you got the money, go for the Nylon Backpack, my second choice was the messanger bag but if you need a bag for college there is a Campus backpack too! You can also check out Speck Products but they are not as good as Incase if you ask me.
