I am having a Logoff/restart/shutdown problem with a student Mac lab running 10.5.4 on Powermac G5’s

I think the reason for it relates to the mounting of an afp share mount to a novell server after students login through the network client.

Then the afp login box appears to connect to a novell server, if the student either connects or cancels the login box, they can Logoff/restart/shutdown problem without a problem.

If the login box is left on the desktop for more than 10 mins, the system hangs. Is there a timeout associated with it?

However if they leave it in the background as the students do, it prevents Logoff/restart/shutdown and hangs. This can be resolved by force quitting the loginwindow process in activity monitor.

In activity monitor, it can show up as “loginwindow (not responding)” in red or “NetAuthAgent (not responding)”, this occurs when the afp login doesnt appear or if the network is busy or they launch an application before it appears.

However, as I said this can be resolved by force quitting the loginwindow process in activity monitor.

The errors that occur in console when it wont logoff/shutdown/restart are:

9/18/08 10:42:48 AM loginwindow23 ERROR | WSActivateApp | SetFrontProcess({0, 139298}) returned error -600. Unable to activate process.

Anyone any ideas, I’d appreciate it.
