AFP problem 10.2.8 server and OS 9 Client

We have our labs setup running 9.2 connecting thru MacManger to a Mac OS X 10.2.8 server. Anytime we open a connection to a share on the server it sends a request GetFileDirParms every 2 seconds. This request is bogging down the labs when the kids are trying to access the internet with 30 machines sending the same request every 2 seconds. Anyone seen this before or have a solution to stopping this constant request over the network.
