Hey guys

I was just wondering if in disk utility if you delete a container will it delete the volume within it ?

Yes.
When you click on the container with a volume and click "delete", it's the subordinated volume that gets re-created from scratch (same name but empty).
At least if we are talking about APFS container/volumes.
To remove the container from the disk, you have to use "partition".
