after 10.14.6 update, battery doesnt last very long

after 10.14.6 update, battery doesnt last very long.
1st time i have ever experienced or even heard of a battery duration problem on a relatively new mac device.
it was fine before the update. with my constant use battery would last about 8 hours with heavy use.
now its lasting only about half of that. something is wrong.
i have killed running processes, and drastically changed to lighter use settings like mail fetch from mail push, etc etc.
but something is still eating up battery.
