So missed the sleek form factor of my 4. And yes. It’s been almost a decade or close to that. Now I finally have it back and WOW. Honestly the best phone I’ve ever owned. Unreal.

My Mini went to the wife when I decided I wanted the camera features of the Pro so I still get to enjoy it now and then. It really is damn near the prefect size.

I really like the size and design of the 12 Mini.

My iPhone SE1 has had some battery related issues lately, and was thinking of replacing the battery. I was also thinking about getting a 12 Mini to replace my SE1 instead of getting a battery, but I am not liking the Face ID.

If the 12 Mini had Touch ID, I would have most likely replaced my SE1 already.

I was thinking of waiting for the iPhone 13 before making any decisions, but with the rumors of poor sales of the 12 Mini, I wonder if Apple might drop the Mini sized iPhone going forward.

Personally, I would probably do just about anything it takes, to keep my SE1 going.

I received an Apple gift certificate last year and bought an 11, but couldn't get to like it at all.
Back into its box it went for being too large, too heavy, too rounded to pick it up...
The SE is back in the game, me happy.

Did you get used to Face ID? This and the lack of a home button is holding me back from getting a 12 Mini.

As for your iPhone 11, I understand the size difference complaints, especially since the 11 is a giant compared to the SE1.

I created a thread a while back when I "downgraded" from my iPhone 6s Plus to the SE1, mostly due to the size, but also because I didn't like the overall design of the 6/6s/7.

I really dislike huge phones, but the 12 Mini doesn't really fit what I consider as huge.

There is barely a size difference between the SE1 and the 12 Mini. The 12 Mini is only 7.7mm taller, 5.6mm wider, .2mm thinner, and 22 grams heavier than the SE1.

Compare that to the SE2, which is 14.6mm taller, 8.7mm wider, .3mm thinner, and 35 grams heavier than the SE1.

The 12 Mini might be the closest iPhone to the 5/5s/SE1 size.

I felt the same way about Face ID and the missing home button. But, after using my 12 Mini for a few days, I didn't miss the home button and Face ID is a great convenience.

You don't have to use Face ID if you don't like it. And swiping up for home is something you'll get used to.

You'll also like the 5G capability.

I didn't like Face ID. Of course there's the face mask issue, but when I was working on my desk with my iPhone 11 laying on the desk surface, I had to really bend over the device in order to get Face ID working. That was annoying.

I did get used to not having a Home button almost instantly.

Apart from the iPhone 11 size, what I probably disliked most were its rounded edges that made it hard for me to get a good grip. I dropped the thing many times...

Thanks for sharing all the 12 mini data, sounds really interesting.

Still on my iPhone 6s but the mini will be my next phone purchase for sure. I still marvel at it when it's on display somewhere.

Probably the only drawback to the iPhone 12 Mini is the price. Mine was a gift from my son, but If I had to purchase one outright, I probably would not have.

Perhaps Apple will reduce the price now that it seems they have stopped production.

Reminds me of when I “upgraded” from my 5s to 6s plus. After three months i couldn’t stand the huge size anymore and sold it and went back to my 5s (later upgraded to se1). It was the biggest sigh of relief going back to the smaller phone.

Haha same, I went from 6s plus to se1 (with a pit stop 5s in between) because i couldn’t stand the size. I probably commented in your thread.

For me that 5.6mm bigger width is the thing though. Too significant for me to get really excited about the mini. I could probably make do with the taller screen and having to shuffle my grip to get my thumb to reach the corners, but the bigger width means I can’t really grip the phone securely and easily reach the far edge. I’ve tried with my family member’s mini. The se1 width was designed for this so it’s really as wide as I want my phone. To me the mini is the least of the evils, and by a large margin, so I appreciate it for that.

Interesting… personally I feel that the Mini should not be any narrower, as that would make typing difficult… I’d actually prefer it slightly wider and a tiny bit shorter. The 16:9 aspect ratio would probably be perfect for me.

For two thumb typing, wider keyboard is of course better, but since early small smartphones days I quickly got used to small keyboards and never felt it was an issue for me, especially with the iPhone’s auto correct which used to be stellar (seems to have degraded over the years somehow). Narrower even helped me to type faster. And then when one thumb gesture typing (eg. Quickpath) came along, I found the small keyboard was again an advantage. And I find Quickpath as fast as two thumb typing for regular text. Names and of course numbers and symbols are not good with it though.
I like shorter screens too for easier thumb reach. If I had my way, I’d go back to the original 3.5” 3:2 haha. Supreme reachability. Few share my views, but I really have zero desire for a bigger screen on a phone.

I guess lol, i miss hit on my 12 max.
Is this one-handed? Maybe it is too big.

Seriously though, typing was easier when I had a Plus sized phone, but only when I could have two hands on it. One-handed typing was a horrible experience for me.

When I "downgraded" my 6s Plus to a SE1, typing was one of the few things I missed about the larger phone and something I had to get used to with the smaller one.

It didn't take long though, and having a phone that fit in my pockets again was well worth the occasional missed typed key.

I had the iPhone 12 Pro at the beginning. Something, I cant point exactly what, told me that I should try the mini. I went to a local retail store and out of nowhere it felt good. I decided to take a chance and sold my pro and got the mini and for me and this was a great decision.
I think that the only problem with the mini is the price. Selling the 64gb for 699 usd before tax is too high in my opinion. If they sold the 128gb for 699 usd - that would have been a great price for a great phone!
I hope that in the near 13 lineup they will do something about it.

I didn't hate everything about the 6s Plus, but mainly the size and the overall design with the rounded edges.

Even the large size of the 6s Plus, I didn't mind all the time. If I was able to have two hands on the 6s Plus, I much rather use the Plus sized phone than the SE, but so much of my usage was one-handed. Taking one-handed photos was a nightmare.

Things I liked about my SE over the 6s Plus:
-The size, for almost every interaction with the phone, with the exception of two-handed use.
-Along with the size, being able to fit it in my pockets and cars. No more shopping for clothing based on my phone size. No more laying it on the seat of my car only to have it fly off when making a turn.
-How light it is, doesn't feel like I am carrying a brick in my pants pocket.
-The design, the squared edges felt like I had extra grip when holding, and I could stand it on the side edge.
-The price!

The things I liked about my 6s Plus over my SE:
-The size, but only in two-hand use.
-The faster Touch ID 2.
-The camera.
-The battery life.

While 3D Touch was the main selling point of the 6s, it didn't really do anything for me so didn't mind that the SE didn't have it.

While it may not be ideal, it is the closest we will probably get to the SE1.

Exactly!

I agree, and the price has been another thing holding me back from getting the Mini.

I think it is a similar case of the iPad Mini. It is priced higher than the iPad. I assume Apple can justify this by saying it is harder to get the same components in a smaller package. Also the demand could be lower for the smaller devices.

But I agree with the 128GB for $699, that could be just enough for me to give it a try.
