iPad After creating a photo folder do you erase pic from camera roll?

I'm new to this. I have pics in my camera roll that I'm looking to transfer to a separate folder for organization. Once I do, are there any disadvantages to erasing the pic in the camera roll? Or do you also keep in there?

Also does having two of the same pics (ie camera roll and specific folder) take up memory twice?
