Hi, I've got an 8-core Mac Pro with 5GB of RAM, and when I run AE, the loading image says "3% used of 3.0GB".

When my friend with his new MacBook Pro with 2GB of RAM runs AE, it says "3% used of 2.0GB".

Is this a RAM limitation in the application? I wouldn't imagine it could be, because 3GB is hardly anything in the world of video.

What is going on?

Yea, the current version of after effects has a ram limit of 3gigs. It actually went up to 3 from 2 in version 6.5. Hopefully this will be fixed in AE CS3.

its only showing you the ram being used to open after effects at that point. there is a cap on RAM even on the mac side but if you use something like GridIron Nucleo or wait until CS3 comes out you will no longer have a cap at all.

isn't their a way in the pref. to set how much ram you want. I only have a gig in my pb so it will allow me to use the whole 1 gig....
