Not sure if this is supposed to happen, so I thought I'd ask.

I recently just got the new MBP, late 2011. And I checked on software update and it was updating iTunes and EFFI. After it restarted, it made a weird noise before going to the traditional OS X start up sound, is this right? I'm a bit paranoid that it's somehow harmful. I've reinstalled Mac OS X Lion 3 times and still made that noise.

You reinstalled three times? Is it making the noise every time you boot, not just once?

Normally it does a "firmware update tone" but you should only hear that once.

Yes, I only heard it once before the traditional Mac OS X boot up sound. It was like a abrupt beep noise. Just wanted to make sure because this is a brand new laptop, and thought that maybe it might have been defective somehow. Thanks for clarifying.

Sometimes you just got to be careful I guess.

I re-installed everything again just to make sure one more time, and there wasn't the update tone. Should I be even more worried now?
