hi
after you install something on leopard.

where do you go to explore it?? check its size, see what exactly was installed.....and explore the files etc.

is it just one location? or several?

eg. on windows i wnet to programmes folder, common files folder.....

The application will be in the Applications folder.

There might also be something in the ~/Library/ folder or the ~/Library/Application Support/ folder

so in the app folder, it will just be a shortcut to the actual files?

No, the Applications folder contains the actual application not a shortcut. Sometimes the application stores some support files in the Library locations that I mentioned.

~ is notation for your home folder.

Also know that OS X doesnt treat programs like windows. It doesnt scatter things around like DLL's in WIN32 and stuff in registry..etc. In OS X the program and everything it needs is in the application. You can right click on a app and select "Show Package Contents" to see what all the program package has in it. THats why when you drag a program to the trash on a Mac.. Its really gone. The whole thing and not just the one part windows shows you in the program directory.
